COI requirements checklist generator

Pick a trade and project size and get the insurance requirements you should ask that vendor to carry — limits, additional insured, and waivers, with the reasoning behind each.

Pick a trade above to see recommended insurance requirements.

How to use these requirements

The recommendations above are a practical starting point based on the vendor’s trade hazard and your project size. Write the ones that apply into your contract, then collect a matching ACORD 25 certificate before the vendor starts work. The two easiest things to get wrong are confirming you’re named additional insured by endorsement (not just certificate holder) and requiring a waiver of subrogation — so double-check those.

For the full reasoning, read COI requirements for general contractors and the step-by-step guide to tracking subcontractor COIs. When you’re ready to stop tracking all of this in a spreadsheet, CoverGuard reads each certificate with AI, checks it against exactly these requirements, and chases renewals before coverage lapses.
